The class will focus on three areas: 1) reading technical reports, 2) writing parts of technical reports, and 3) giving technical oral presentations.

Students will use their individual graduation thesis and published technical reports in their field of study.
Students will prepare for some class assignments prior to class and will complete other class assignments outside class.

/Course outline and weekly schedule(up to 2,000 letters)
The class will be divided into two groups. Group 1 will follow the following schedule. For group 2, Module A and Module B will be reversed. Module A (Hauser and Satoh) will focus on writing and presentation. Module B (Yoshinaga, Terada, Toda, and Chilimuge) will focus on reading.

Week 1 (4/8): General introduction; organization of the course; division of students into groups 1 and 2; participation in international research conferences, in Japan and abroad

Module A:
Week 2 (4/15): Writing (grammar and vocabulary for technical writing, analyzing model technical report)
Week 3 (4/22): Writing (title, abstract, citations and references)
Week 4 (5/6): Writing (keywords, captions)
Week 5 (5/13): Presentation (model presentation; giving a good presentation; making a good slideshow)
Week 6 (5/20): Presentation (preparation and feedback)
Week 7 (5/27): Student presentations
Week 8 (6/3): Student presentations

Module B:
Week 9 (6/10): Introduction to technical reading; finding and utilizing technical reports; distribution of reading packet
Week 10 (6/17): Technical report 1 (understanding the report)
Week 11 (6/24): Technical report 1 (critiquing the report)
Week 12 (7/1): Technical report 2 (understanding)
Week 13 (7/8): Technical report 2 (critiquing)
Week 14 (7/22): Technical report 3 (understanding)
Week 15 (7/29): Technical report 3 (critiquing)
