Course Goals: 1. To present a one-sided, academic argument. 2. To summarize the main points of different kinds of texts. 3. To use pop culture (For example, music and movies) to understand and discuss world issues (For example, using rock music and movies to discuss topics such as terrorism, cloning, suicide, bullying, robots, and domestic violence). 4. To learn basic skills of critical thinking (For example, Do you agree with an opinion and why? Are there good reasons to support an opinion?). 5. To learn the basic skills of an argument-style presentation. |
