Welcome to this class! The goal in this course is to continue developing your speaking skills from ASE I over a range of topics through further development of summary writing, outlining, and oral presentation preparation with the topics, and to continue supporting your ideas and opinions with critical thinking within your preparation towards two-sided arguments in your presentations.

As before with ASE I, the teacher's blog will be used in this class to upload class material and information about class preparation and assignments, plus some supporting paper handouts on topics and topic organization.

/Course outline and weekly schedule(up to 2,000 letters)
Week 1 - Course introduction & guidance

Weeks 2-5 - Pre-teaching survey for any new students (Week 2); Topic 3: Educational systems (with group discussions, developing, presenting & submitting summaries of presentation topics in classes of weeks 2 through 4, with Topic 3 short presentations in Week 5)

Weeks 6-9 - Topic 4: Japanese society & change with group discussions, developing, presenting & submitting summaries of two-sided presentation topics in classes of weeks 6 through 8, with Topic 4 short presentations in Week 9)

Weeks 10-14 - Final presentations on student choices of topics from teacher suggestions (with group discussions, developing, presenting and submitting summaries of two-sided presentation topics in class of weeks 10 through 12; teacher consultation & presentation practice in class of week 13; and final presentations in week 14)

Week 15 - Course review & optional post-teaching survey & review

Week 16 (if necessary) - Make-up exam/presentation

We may adjust things within the topics for short presentations depending on class level, time, and progress.

Class attendance is compulsory.
In-class participation: 25% total
Presentation topic 3 & 4 summaries (worth 5% each): 10% total
Presentation topics 3 & 4 (worth 15% each): 30% total
Final presentation (final summary worth 10%; final outline 5%; final presentation 15%): 30% total
Presentation 3 & 4 superior effort & performance bonus points: 5% total

As with ASE I, this class will be in English only and I will expect you to try your best in it. But I am not looking for "perfect English." I look for the character and quality of your ideas and thinking as you show through your presentations. We can have fun and grow in our classes, and I will work with you to help you develop your ability in English.
