In this class you will learn how to present a spoken procedure. You will also learn how to present a spoken two-sided argument. You will also learn how to evaluate whether your presentation is accomplishing its goal. |

Week 1 Guidance Week 2 Course introduction; Discussing summer vacation. Week 3 Introduction to oral procedures. Week 4 Designing a procedure; Group work Week 5 Group procedure evaluation. Week 6 Group procedure work. Week 7 FINAL PROCEDURE PRESENTATION Week 8 What is a 2-sided argument? Analyzing a spoken argument Week 9 Introducing a topic and argument; Discussing and choosing topics Week 10 Introducing arguments in groups Week 11 Using PowerPoint for support (bring computers to class) Week 12 Presenting 1st argument in groups Week 13 Presenting 2nd argument in groups. Week 14 FINAL PRESENTATION Week 15 FINAL PRESENTATION; Course overview; Course evaluation survey This class will be conducted in English. There will be listening homework of YouTube and TED videos after many classes. There will also be writing and research assignments to plan for your oral presentations. Many classes will start with a group discussion based on the homework, so it is essential for the content of the class that all students do the homework every week. Critical evaluation of oneself and of peers will be major components of the class. This entails that revision will also be a major component. Always bring a learner’s English dictionary to class (paper or digital). An English-Japanese dictionary can also be useful. |

Attendance is compulsory. 5 absences is automatic failure. 4 absences may result in failure.
