Academic Spoken English II is designed as the second stage of Academic Spoken English I Both ASE & ASEII in 1st year, are preparation for ASEI & II in the following 2nd year 2014. The aim or goal is to improve reading skills, vocabulary, and discussion skills to produce a summarized background of a situation, and use critical thinking to give supported opinion, and a recommendation. Learning how to find and separate important information in a text for summarizing a topic, writing a summary report including a two sided argument, procedure, a critical opinion, with support for the opinion, and a recommendation based on the topic. Giving an oral presentation based on a report. |

1. Listening, speaking / discussion / reading / summarizing / writing / oral presentation. 2. There will be pair & group work 3. The class will be taught in English only. 4. Any research will be in English only. Weeks 1-2 Activities designed to help all students build a communication community. Weeks 2-3 Class survey based on the 1st topic "To be decided", an introduction to others opinions. Weeks 3-4 Intensive reading on the 1st topic, discussion activities for critical thinking, and opinion Weeks 4- 8 Report writing, presentation practice. Mid Term Presentation. 1. An introduction of the topic 2. The history or situation summarized. 3. A conclusion including a supported opinion and a recommendation. Weeks 8-14 Process; Design and test a machine. Process report writing, presentation practice. Final Presentation. 1. Machine design & construction process. 2. Presentation of the machine design. 3. A practical test of the completed machine & debrief. * This schedule may be changed slightly because of progress or average ability of the class. |

1.Class attendance is compulsory and included as classroom effort / co-operation with other students. 20% * Students who miss 4 classes with or without officially acceptable excuses, he/she will need to go to talk to a counselor at the Nandemosoudan Office. * Students who miss over 30% of total classes without any officially acceptable excuses automatically fail. 2.
