Class Content: 1. The first 2/3 of the semester will be mainly focused on the two-sided argument genre. Every week, we will look at different important aspects of this genre and covering a variety of topics. During this first 2/3 of the semester, students will also learn important presentation skills. A group presentation will end the first 2/3 of the semester. The last 1/3 of the semester will be focused on summarization, another important academic skill. Students will learn how to summarize a topic, and then react to the topic using the skills learned in the first 2/3 of the semester. An individual presentation will end the final 1/3 of the semester. Below is the weekly schedule: W1: Guidance W2: Course orientation W3: Two-sided Argument Part 1 W4: Two-sided Argument Part 2 W5: Two-sided Argument Part 3 W6: Two-sided Argument Part 4 W7: Two-sided Argument Part 5 W8: Two-sided Argument Part 6 W9: Two-sided Argument Part 7 W10: Group presentations W11: Group presentations W12: Summary Part 1 W13: Summary Part 2 W14: Reaction Part 1 W15: Reaction Part 2 W16: Final presentations or preparations for final presentations W17 (Test Week): Final presentations 2. All materials will come from the teacher or be created by the students. 3. The class is taught in English. |
