/Topic and goals
Due to COVID-19 and the state of emergency, this class will be taught online for at least the first several weeks. We will use Zoom and Google Classroom. I will contact the students assigned to this class soon.

Students in this course will understand the components of genres of academic written English, i.e. one-sided argument and summary, selected for students of science and engineering. It fosters the basic academic speaking and listening skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as reading and outlining, required for achieving the communicative goals of the genres. Activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below.

In addition to the group presentations and discussion activities, students will present a spoken summary and two prepared spoken opinions (mini-presentations) in class.
