達成目標
/Topic and goals
The purpose of this course is to re-introduce students to more complex and academic concepts and skills of English language for science and engineering than the Basic Technical English course in the Spring semester. This course supports students in terms of applying the scientific knowledge and language in English as well as academic skills obtained in the Spring to more realistic learning and research tasks. Such tasks include academic writing (accuracy and fluency), academic discussions, presentations, student-generated research topics and scientific investigation of such topics in a small group and/or individually. Building knowledge of technical vocabulary, and developing abstract writing skills will also be addressed in this course. In other words, students will be trained to take initiative, plan their own academic research in English, and communicate their study and research in English with their peers and professors more freely. Through realistic and semi-realistic projects such as reading academic journal articles, proceedings and presentation files that interest students and may serve as justification for selecting certain research labs for their graduation research in the fourth year, students will be able to practice and use the knowledge and skills acquired in this course. Therefore, learning is closely associated with students' performance in understanding realistic materials, handling realistic tasks, and achieving realistic objectives in this course.

1. Important notice:
Remedial classes (再履修クラス)only accept the students who have failed the same course previously. Any students who have not yet taken this course, including returning students from school leaves (過年次生)and transfer students(編入生), should go to a regular class of their own programs offered from Period 1 to Period 4 on Thursdays or Fridays.

Please register to the correct class.

If you need to register to a regular class because you are not a "true" 過年次生or編入生, please email utejimu@g-edu.uec.ac.jp with your name, student ID, department and program titles and the period and the day of the week (e.g. Thu 2). You will be assigned to a class that matches your request as much as possible.

2. Your attendance and your participation in class activities are two of the most important elements of the course and your achievement. You must try to use English in class all the time. Inappropriate use of Japanese in class will be considered unacceptable behavior and will lead to a lower final grade. You are encouraged to ask questions actively in class. In addition, you are expected to make contributions to the class and collaborate in groups for research, presentations and other tasks.
