/Topic and goals
This class is offered to students from Cluster 1 and/or Cluster 2 who have used the ICT textbook.

Those students who have studied the Engineering textbook previouslyl should take the remedial class in Period 5 on Wednesday.

Remedial classes (再履修クラス)only accept the students who have failed the same course previously. Any students who have not yet taken this course, including returning students from school leaves (過年生)and transfer students(編入生), should go to a regular class of their own programs offered from Period 1 to Period 4 on Thursdays or Fridays.

The purpose of this course is to re-introduce students who have failed the course previously to more complex and academic concepts and skills of English language for science and engineering than the Basic Technical English course in the Spring semester. This course supports students in terms of applying the scientific knowledge and language in English as well as academic skills obtained in the Spring to more realistic learning and research tasks. Such tasks include academic writing (accuracy and fluency), academic discussions, presentations, student-generated research topics and scientific investigation of such topics in a small group and/or individually. Building knowledge of technical vocabulary, and developing abstract writing skills will also be addressed in this course. In other words, students will be trained to take initiative, plan their own academic research in English, and communicate their study and research in English with their peers and professors more freely. Through realistic and semi-realistic projects such as reading academic journal articles, proceedings and presentation files that interest students and may serve as justification for selecting certain research labs for their graduation research in the fourth year, students will be able to practice and use the knowledge and skills acquired in this course. Therefore, learning is closely associated with students' performance in understanding realistic materials, handling realistic tasks, and achieving realistic objectives in this course.
