The aim or goals of this course are to improve academic reading, discussion, writing, and presentation skills. Two genre will be studied 1. Academic Reaction; Introducing history of the topic, summarize main points, and a critical reaction. 2. Academic Research Paper; Conduct research on an issue and present it individually or in a group as Introduction/Results/Conclusion |

No text book. All materials will be provided by the teacher they will be; Photocopied reading text and lesson support text. |
授業内容と その進め方 /Course outline and weekly schedule |
1. Listening, speaking / discussion / reading / summarizing / writing / oral presentation. 2. There will be pair & group work 3. The class will be taught in English only. 4. Any research will be in English only. Week 1 An introduction to an issue by the teacher. Understanding main points and important information. Weeks 2-3 Activities for summarizing and paraphrasing information. Weeks 3-4 Intensive reading on a teacher provided topic, support for writing a critical report. Weeks 4-8 Academic Reaction;. Mid Term Report Paper. 1. An introduction of the topic. The history or situation. 2. A critical reaction to the topic/research/writing. Weeks 8-9 Make a plan and schedule for research. Weeks 9-11 Research on the chosen topic and progress checking Weeks 11-14 Finalizing research; Drafting Paper and checking. 1. Peer and group review of research. Final draft 2. Research paper. * This schedule may be changed slightly because of progress or average ability of the class. |

1. Class attendance is compulsory and included as classroom effort / co-operation with other students. 20% * Students who miss 4 classes with or without officially acceptable excuses, he/she will need to go to talk to a counselor at the Nandemosoudan Office. * Students who miss over 30% of total classes without any officially acceptable excuses automatically fail. 2. Completing all tasks that are assigned during each class or as homework / Note taking. 20% 3. 2 X Academic Paper (See aboveその進め方 ) 60% 1. 1st Paper. 30% 2. 2nd Paper 30% |
