The topic of this class is the use of English for intercultural communication, including English as a lingua franca. The two primary goals are to develop students' ability to use English for intercultural communication and to become more conscious of how English is used in Japan and elsewhere.

Students will do individual and group research projects outside class. Individual writing assignments will be part of each of these projects. They will also prepare for group presentations outside class.
