Students in this course will understand the components of genres of academic spoken English, i.e. one-sided argument and summary, selected for students of science and engineering. It fosters the basic academic speaking and listening skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as reading and outlining, required for achieving the communicative goals of the genres. Activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below. |

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. (Chinese Proverb). It is so important for students to put time and effort into learning a language. Attending every class session is necessary so that you do not miss any key information. Also, remember that the amount of time we spend together is short so self-guided study is really the key to success. |
