主題および 達成目標 /Topic and goals |
Students in this course will understand the components of genres of academic written English, i.e. two-sided argument and procedure, selected for students of science and engineering. It fosters the basic academic reading and writing skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as discussion, required for achieving the communicative goals of the genres. In-class activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below. |

Week 1 Course Overview, Ice breaker activity, Communication through speaking and writing Week 2 Review of paragraph writing, Introduction to Process/Procedure writing Week 3 Introduction to Essay writing 1 – Thesis statement, Introductory paragraph, Body paragraphs Week 4 Introduction to Essay writing 2 -Concluding paragraph, Transition words Week 5 Practice of writing a process/procedure essay Week 6 Peer editing and Revising a draft Week 7 Introduction to Two-sided argument essay Week 8 Practice of writing a two-sided argument essay Week 9 Reading an article and Discussion, Making an outline of the essay Week 10 Practice of writing a two-sided argument essay about the topic students read Week 11 Peer editing and Revising a draft, Review of transition words Week 12 Making an outline of two-sided argument essay about the topics students choose Week 13 Peer-editing students’ final essays and Revising a draft Week 14 Reading an article and Discussion Week 15 Wrap-up of the course, Final Quiz Note: This course is subject to change depending on the ability and progress of the class. |
