/Topic and goals
Students in this course will understand the components of genres of academic spoken English, i.e. two-sided argument and procedure, selected for students of science and engineering. It fosters the basic academic speaking and listening skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as reading and technical writing, required for achieving the communicative goals of the genres. In-class activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below. /Course outline and weekly schedule
The first half hour of the class will be spent for fluency activities, individual practice using a technique called “Mimeospeak.”In the rest of the class time, you will tell how to do something (procedures) or make an argument based on the contents of what you have seen.

Class 1: Class introduction / Syllabus overview
Class 2: Structure of procedures
Classes 3 - 6: Mimeospeak practice + Lightning presentations on procedures (Show & Tell)
Class 7: Procedure presentation
Class 8: Structure of two-sided arguments
Class 9: Movie day
Classes 10 -14: Mimeospeak practice + Lightning presentations based on the movie
Class 15: Two-sided argument presentation

1.  Practice Mimeospeak for 30 minutes EVERY DAY.  
2.  Prepare for upcoming presentations.
