Students in this course will understand the components of genres of academic spoken English, i.e., two-sided argument and procedure, selected for students of science and engineering. It fosters the basic academic speaking and listening skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as reading and technical writing, required for achieving the communicative goals of the genres. In-class activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below. |

This course will focus on developing communication skills for academic and science / engineering purposes. The course goal is to help students communicate effectively in social and academic settings using the following tasks: pair and group discussions and presentations, clarification techniques, listening to dialogs and making comments or asking questions, stating opinions and reasons, using evidence to support an opinion. |
