AE I: Building on what they have learned in Academic Spoken English I and II and Academic Written English I and II, students in this course will review and further learn how to summarize and how to organize different kinds of arguments, in both spoken and written English. Students will prepare both spoken and written reactions, consisting of a summary followed by an original argument, to spoken and/or written texts. Students will also develop academic skills necessary for academic communication, including presentation and critical thinking skills. |

Students are expected to: • stay on top of their assignments (both in-class and homework) • balance their responsibilities and set their own priorities • set aside at least an hour per week outside of class for studying and assignments • work outside of class for preparation for projects, presentations and writing assignments. |
成績評価方法 および評価基準 (最低達成基準を含む) (1,000文字以内) /Evaluation and grading (up to 1,000 letters) |
Argument presentations: 40% Spoken and written reactions: 30% In-class performance: 20% Other assignments and activities: 10% **Rubrics will be provided before each assignment or task. Your grade for the semester is calculated from your achievement in the assignments and your effort in class and homework. You will have to give evidence that you have done the work. Remember, you get what you earn. I do not hand out A’s at the door. You are expected to participate actively in all class activities. Do NOT sleep in class and pay attention. Inappropriate behavior will count as one absence. If you are going to be absent, please talk to or email me before class begins to make arrangements for turning in your homework, making up class work, or getting any assignments or handouts you missed. If you do not contact me before class starts, any assignments you need to turn in will be considered late and you will not get credit for them. |

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE REPEATING THIS COURSE (再履修生必読): I will ONLY accept "repeater students" who have filled in the forms at Kyomuka and whose names appear on the official class register. English Department is splitting the repeater students evenly between each class, and I am sorry to say this, but your individual wish will not be granted at this time. 再履修生は事前に教務課へ「英語再履修の申請」用紙を提出する必要があり、各クラスへ人数が均等になるように割り振られます。教員を選ぶことはできません。教務課発行の履修者リストに掲載されていない学生は、Zoom授業に入室できません。 |
