Building on what they have learned in Academic Spoken English I and II and Academic Written English I and II, students in this course will review and further learn how to summarize and how to organize different kinds of arguments, in both spoken and written English. Students will prepare both spoken and written reactions, consisting of a summary followed by an original argument, to spoken and/or written texts. Students will also develop academic skills necessary for academic communication, including presentation and critical thinking skills. |

There is no textbook. The teacher will use a UEC LMS (learning management system) - Google Classroom - to upload class materials and post any homework, plus assignments. |

Week 1: Class information & pre-teaching survey Weeks 2-5: (Weeks 2 through 4) Reading/discussing/developing spoken one- or two-sided arguments and written reactions with social issues, with short presentation of a one- or two-sided argument and developed short written reaction (Week 5) Weeks 6-10: (Weeks 6 through 9) Reading/discussing/developing spoken two-sided arguments and written reactions with science & technological issues with short presentation of a two-sided argument and developed short written reaction (Week 10) Weeks 11-14: Final presentation & final short written reaction discussion/development Week 15: Final presentations/written topic submissions/optional post-teaching survey Week 16 (if necessary): Make-up presentations/final written reactions |
