Students in this course will understand the components of a scientific research report, which includes both written research reports and spoken research presentations. This course fosters academic skills necessary to perform research and communicate research findings, including writing, presenting, and critical thinking skills. This will be accomplished by conducting one or more research projects, either individually or in a group, and writing at least one research paper and giving at least one research presentation. Activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below.

Week 2:  Choosing a research topic for group research project
Week 3:  Organization of a research project
Week 4:  Method section
Week 5:  Results section
Week 6:  Introduction section
Week 7:  Discussion section
Week 8:  Practice for group presentations
Week 9:  Group presentations
Week 10:  Writing an abstract. New groups choose research topic
Week 11:  Work on second research project
Week 12:  Prepare powerpoint for presentations
Week 13:  Group presentations
Week 14:  Group presentations
Week 15:  Finish written report and wrap-up
