Students in this course will understand the components of a scientific research report, which includes both written research reports and spoken research presentations. This course fosters academic skills necessary to perform research and communicate research findings, including writing, presenting, and critical thinking skills. This will be accomplished by conducting one or more research projects, either individually or in a group, and writing at least one research paper and giving at least one research presentation. Activities and teaching materials are chosen and designed by individual teachers as shown in the course outline and weekly schedule below. |

As with AE2Y I, there will be no textbook. The teacher will use either Google Classroom or WebClass to upload class material and information about class preparation and assignments, plus supporting paper handouts on topics and topic organization. |

Week 1: Class information & guidelines Weeks 2-6: Reading/discussing/developing academic abstracts with introduction to IMRAD (Weeks 2 through 5) with/short developed research abstract and short presentation on abstract topic (Week 6) Weeks 7-11: Reading/discussing/developing position on Week 6 written abstract towards written IMRAD research paper in IEEE-style citation (Weeks 7 through 10), and rough version of final presentation version of research topic for check and review with final in-class draft work of research paper (Week 11) Weeks 12-15: Final presentation practice & preparation, final draft of research paper submission (Week 14), and final presentations (Weeks 14 & 15) and late final draft paper submissions (Week 15) Week 16: Extra day for any late final presentations/optional post-teaching survey |
