Students in this course will understand the components of a one-sided argument, an academic genre selected for students of science and engineering, and how to prepare and deliver oral presentations based on this genre. Students will also learn basic discussion skills needed to actively participate in an academic discussion. The course fosters the basic academic speaking and listening skills as well as critical thinking and other academic skills, such as reading and outlining, required for achieving students’ communicative goals. |

There will be homework, preparation, and/or self-study assignments every week. Students are expected to complete all assignments on time. Students will not receive credit for late assignments. Final grading will be decreased for missed or late assignments requested outside of class activities (Other assignments: 10%) |
