Goals of the course This course aims to deepen the academic questions in students’ research fields and enable students to explain the purpose and significance of their research concerning existing research through discussions with tutors and peers. In addition, the course will train students in organizing and orientating their own research through discussions and getting/providing reflections. Students are expected to understand the difference between “topic” and “question” and find the right starting point for their research. The course will support students in pursuing their research by paralleling the seminars provided by their academic supervisors. |

Overview of the course Students will attend seminars to achieve three goals: 1) Examine the research proposal at hand, 2) Set a viable and meaningful research question, and 3) Write them down in the form of an “introduction” of a paper. Students are requested to work proactively to deepen their research questions and learn their background of the topics in between. Students are also expected to acquire a broader academic perspective in terms of sustainability research. Students will hold discussions and share ideas and problems with peer students and tutors (“sounding boards”) through Interdisciplinary Seminars I and II, two cycles.
